The Return of Fate
The Dreams in the Witch House
The Lovecraft account of The Dreams in the Witch House tells the story of Gilman, a young mathematics student at Miskatonic University who became obsessed with the non-Euclidean angles of a certain house in Arkham, Massachussetts. He gained knowledge by both reading ancient lore and by drawing connections with his readings and modern day physics while living in the house and perceiving its ill effects. This allowed him to open a portal into another space or dimension simply by willing himself to this place. He ultimately becomes destroyed by the inter-dimensional servants and by the madness from the fever that pursuit of this knowledge led him. This story serves as a cautionary tale to aspiring Wilderes, occultists, and magic users, reminding them that you have a great responsibility to the knowledge and to the compacts that you make to obtain the power.
